Weymouth was one of the very first real tourist locations to be established, with the visits of King George III putting this absolutely charming seaside resort on the map. Weymouth still enjoys its position as one of the top tourist locations on the south coast with its sunny climate and offers the holiday-maker many treats – a superb safe and clean beach just a few steps from the main shopping precinct, marvellous food and drink outlets, an abundance and variety of holiday accommodation, surrounded by some of the prettiest countryside in England and plenty of family attractions within easy reach. Weymouth Beach – possibly the main attraction of Weymouth is its lovely beach within easy reach of the town centre. The smooth sandy beach gives way to shallow bathing waters which are ideal for all the family. Further along the beach going towards Bowleaze Cove the sand turns to shingle. Along the waterfront you will find all the usual seaside resort favourites – fish & chips, ice-creams, water-sports, Punch & Judy, beach sports and even a promenade train ride. During the summer you can experience the International Kite Festival held on the sandy beach as well as the Volleyball Classic competition - the largest on the south coast. Weymouth Shopping – Weymouth has a great selection of shops and shopping precincts interspersed with pubs and restaurants. There are the national chain-stores you would expect plus a wonderful array of small independently owned stores that offer an incredible variety of goods, from gifts, ceramics and crafts to specialist clothes shops and more - explore the precincts and alleys for some great shopping treats. Weymouth Harbour – a different aspect entirely is Weymouth Harbour – here you will come out of the hustle and bustle of the shopping precinct into an older world where the pace is a little more relaxed. Here you can enjoy a harbour-side meal or drink and watch the boats (and the rest of the world) go by. Or, if you are looking for something to entertain the kids you can visit some of the family attractions all within walking distance including Timewalk and Sharkey’s. If you like looking at the boats, take a stroll along the harbour and go upstream to the Marina. Weymouth makes a great centre to base your holiday at – you can enjoy all the facilities (day and night) but for a change of scene there are an amazing number of places to visit, things to do a and see, you’ll need to come back again and again to get to see and do it all. |
